A 3-hour race for teams of two with navigation by map across the Steel City.

Want to use your GPS watch, your phone, a compass to help get around? Go for it - anything goes for this race as long as you do it on foot. No Uber, no bus, no SOBI bike.

Competitors travel on and off-trail to checkpoints located throughout the city; trail, road, alleyway, park - there will be a bit of everything. Go as hard or as easy as you like! Checkpoints (CPs) are rated on their difficulty and are assigned different point values.

The race will have beginner (25 points each), intermediate (50 points each), advanced (75 points each) and expert (100 points). An overtime (> 3 hours) penalty of 30 points per minute will also be in effect so team strategy and team dynamics are a big part of this race.

Eastwood Park, Hamilton, ON
Teams of 2 (Coed, Male, Female, Masters, Super Masters, Family, Juniors).
  • Ages are teammate ages as of Dec. 31, 2018.
  • Masters teams must have a combined age of 90 or over.
  • Super Masters teams must have a combined age of 120 or over.
  • Family teams consist of one parent and one child (<= 18).
  • Junior teams have both team members under the age of 18 (and at least one member over 14).

We will expand Masters and Super Master categories if significant numbers sign up

Required gear: We are diverting from the usual chip timing system. All checkpoints will be photo based - you will need to take a photo of one team member at each checkpoint.
We will be using an app, Goosechase Adventures, to track the checkpoints, so a smartphone that can hold enough juice for three hours is mandatory.
There will be no aid stations on this race, teams must carry all the sustenance they need for three hours. The city is full of 'aid stations', so taking cash or a credit card to pick up water or carbs on the go is recommended.
We will also be loosening up on the rules. Teams must stay within visual sight and be able to verbally communicate with each other at all times. All normal road rules must be abided and teams must not enter private property.

DontGetLost Adventure Running is a not-for-profit organization and the success of our races relies on the wonderful support we get from our volunteers. We require 15-20 volunteers for each race. There are many benefits to being a DontGetLost Adventure Running Series volunteer including: having fun, get free race swag, enjoy the outdoors, learn about the sport (a great way to start), build management experience, free post-race food, and it counts towards highschool student volunteer curriculum. If you are interested in volunteering contact Patrick (patrick at dontgetlost dot ca).
