A 3-hour snowshoe race for teams of two with navigation by map and compass. Competitors travel on and off-trail to 25 checkpoints located throughout stunning forests and parklands. Go as hard or as easy as you like! Checkpoints (CPs) are rated on their difficulty and are assigned different point values.

The race will have beginner (25 points each), intermediate (50 points each), advanced (75 points each), expert (100 points) and ‘backcountry’ CPs (150 points). An overtime (> 3 hours) penalty of 30 points per minute will also be in effect so team strategy and team dynamics are a big part of this race.

Teams of 2 (Coed, Male, Female, Masters Coed, Masters Male, Masters Female, Super Masters, Family, Juniors).
  • Ages are teammate ages as of Dec. 31, 2019.
  • Masters teams must have a combined age of 90 or over.
  • Super Masters teams must have a combined age of 120 or over.
  • Family teams consist of one parent and one child (<= 13).
  • Junior teams have both team members between the ages of 14 and 18.
All participants are required to review the DontGetLost Adventure Running Series rules and carry the required gear during the race.

Course Cut-Off: 2:00pm (or 3 hours after the race begins)
Awards & Post Race Meal: 2:30pm - 4:30pm

Registration closes at midnight on January 17th, 2019.
Entry fee includes park entrance fee, copies of all race maps for each participant, timing chip rental, post-race hot food, and souvenir toque. Entry fee does not include HST or online transaction charge. Refund policy. Entry fee also includes a 2019 DontGetLost Adventure Running membership to cover race insurance.
Awards will be given to the first place team in all categories and to the top 3 teams in all categories with at least 10 entries. We also have lots of draw prizes from our sponsors. 
DontGetLost Adventure Running is a not-for-profit organization and the success of our races relies on the wonderful support we get from our volunteers. We require 15-20 volunteers for each race. There are many benefits to being a DontGetLost Adventure Running Series volunteer including: having fun, get free race swag, enjoy the outdoors, learn about the sport (a great way to start), build management experience, free post-race food, and it counts towards high school student volunteer curriculum. We're often asked to recommend which snowshoes are most suitable for the Snowshoe Raid. This can be a tough question since we don't know what snow conditions we'll experience on race day. There could be light fluffy powder, deep wet snow, or even hard icy conditions. However, if someone is looking for the best all-round snowshoe, not only for racing but for general snowshoe hiking, or running, we'd recommend Atlas brand "Run", or "Race" models. They offer the ideal surface-area to weight ratio, meaning they're incredibly light, but still afford enough surface-area to traverse through deep snow. They also come with an aggressive toe and heel crampon for grip on any surface. These are the snowshoes we use during course testing and are also the snowshoes worn by most of the podium finishers in our event. More details on these snowshoes can be found on the Atlas website. They can be purchased at any of our retail partners, including Sojourn Outdoors (Barrie) and Squire John's (Collingwood).
South Base Lodge Rentals, located roughly 800m south of the Village at Blue Mountain have a fleet of Atlas brand Series 9 Snowshoes available for rent during the event at a cost of $16 per pair. If you'd like to rent snowshoes from South Base Lodge Rentals, please email the Event Director, Bob Miller (snowraid at dontgetlost dot ca) with the quantity of snowshoes you'd like reserved. Emails must be received by Thursday January 11, 2018. Snowshoes being rented from South Base Lodge Rentals must be picked up and dropped off from the South Base Lodge by participants. The rental shop opens at 8:30am on the morning of the event. Payment for the rental will be made upon pick-up.
