ARX at JUNIOR WORLDS!
Four DontGetLost Adventure Running X athletes will be racing for Canada this summer at the Junior Worlds near St. Moritz, Switzerland. The athletes are Nicole Whitmore, Emma Waddington, Jan Erik Naess and Christian Michelsen. "Many of these athletes started with Adventure Running Kids in our first year in 2010 and they have quickly developed into some of Canada's top adventure runners" says Adventure Running X program manager Meghan Rance. "These athletes also volunteer and coach our younger ARK runners during the spring, summer and fall and are wonderful role models" adds ARK program manager Patrick Saile.
Jan Erik and Emma will be racing in their 2nd Junior Worlds Champs with Emma placing 28th in the sprint competition last year in Norway. Following the Junior Worlds the athletes will join fellow ARXer Graeme Farrand at an international adventure running competition in the mountains of Switzerland that attracks 5,000 athletes. "This will be great training for our ARX athletes as they prepare for Nor-Ams at Dartmouth College in September" says Rance.
DontGetLost plans to send up to two dozen ARX and ARK Attack athletes to Nor-Ams this fall. These out-of-town races provide our DontGetLost youth an opportunity to set goals and take their adventure running to the next level while at the same time getting to explore forests and terrains across North America. It not only motivates the youth to be active but prepares them for time management and problem solving skills that are valuable for their school studies.
