ADVENTURE RUNNING KIDS NEEDS YOU! Adventure Running Kids relies on many volunteers to organize and assist with our sessions. Our volunteer positions are listed below and require a different level of commitment but all provide the wonderful reward of being involved with the ARK running community. We provide our coaches with the necessary training at our seasonal orientation evenings.
VOLUNTEER ROLES Due to popular demand we are expanding our program for the 2010-2011 season and require volunteers for both our 5:30-6:30 and 6:30-7:30PM time slots. Look at the list of positions and please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Running Coaches (8-12 volunteers needed per time slot) Running coaches are the backbone of our Adventure Running Kids training evenings and if you like to run then this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Here is how it works! In each of our time slots we divide our ARK athletes into four groups based on age. Our running coaches are responsible for meeting their group each week, taking attedance and taking their group on a short 10-15 minute warm-up (stretching and running). Our Running coaches then run with their group as the kids move through 2 'technical stations' before returning to our base camp for a final game and/or discussion. The ARK Coordinator and our technical coaches will provide an overview of what the aim of each activity is to our running coaches prior to each session. Technical Coaches (4 volunteers needed per time slot) Our technical coaches have experience coaching and organizing technical aspects of adventure running (hill climbing, core and strength, intervals, distance running, navigation, etc.) and deliver the technical programming at each station. Equipment Manager (one volunteer needed) The equipment manager will coordinate the design and purchase of ARK uniforms and seasonal purchases of ARK branded equipment (eg. water bottles, buffs, socks, toques). Community Relations Manager (one volunteer needed) Our community relations manager will target various community partners and sponsors to help support the Adventure Running Kids programs. Trip Coordinators (two volunteers needed) ARK athletes have the option to participatein several weekend and evening races in the Hamilton area and we may organize a weekend trip, depending on interest. Our trip coordinators will help organize these outings and coordinate chaperones.
VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION & APPLICATION Download our Volunteer Application Form A coaching orientation evening will be an information session about ARK and the various volunteer roles. New volunteers are especially encouraged to attend.
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS Adventure Running Kids is a wonderful opportunity for students in grades 10, 11 and 12 to accumulate hours towards their volunteer service in the community requirement. So if you are a student and like to run then consider joining our Running Coaches.
